Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) have informed us that they have granted permission for Thames Water to shut the road between Christmas Common and Northend between 4th - 8th March. The closure is to allow for a new water connection. Thames Water intend to complete the permanent reinstatement of the carriageway at the same time, so no further closures are expected as a result of these works.
Traffic will be diverted through Pishill for the duration of the works.
Oxfordshire County Council's (OCC) Trading Standards department have informed us of two recent prosecutions that have recently concluded, as a result of HGV’s inappropriately using a Watlington's weight restricted road as a through-route.
Both of the above prosecutions were achieved as a result of public reports. If you suspect a HGV of breaching a weight restriction then you can quickly and easily report it via OCC's website.
Last week Oxford Magistrates’ Court found Mr Jim Walter Bodek guilty of breaching the weight restriction in town. On 06/06/2018, Mr Bodek took a 40T HGV through the weight restriction at Watlington. This matter was brought to the attention of Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) via public report. The driver pleaded guilty and was fined £146, plus £150 towards our costs and a victim surcharge of £30.
In 2017, 38 drivers were successfully prosecuted for weight restriction offences, with many, many more receiving warning letters. This year, by the end of February, we are likely to have completed 12 prosecutions, with significantly more under active investigation.
You can report HGVs that you are concerned may be breaching Watlington’s weight restriction by visiting OCC’s website: https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/business/trading-standards/weight-restriction-enforcement
